Lamb

100% Grass Fed, Finished Lamb

We started our flock with 5 ewe lambs in 2021.  We graze our flock very similar to our beef herd, with exceptions being made for lambing season.  Our ewes normally lamb on pasture in the latter half of May.  The mothers and children then quickly get into the swing of rotating to fresh pastures daily.  By mid June, they are following the cattle herd closely, usually entering the paddock that the cows have just vacated.  This way, the pastures benefit from a diverse grazing technique from the two types of animals.  When the sheep rotate off, they are followed by the hens, then an extended rest period for the pastures.

We retain the ewes that fit our intense management system and show themselves to be healthy, productive, and most importantly, good mothers to the developing lambs.  We process lambs in midsummer and again in December.

A visit in early June to see the baby lambs is a great opportunity to see the holistic management of all the livestock on our farm.  Not only are our lambs super cute, they live full-time with their livestock guardian dogs, Huck and Finn.  You will be hard pressed to meet nicer dogs than Huck and Finn.  While these lovable behemoths have been on the job, we have had ZERO predator problems.  They are part of the flock and make it safer for predators and livestock to live peacefully in the ecosystem we are trying to build on the farm.
